Tall Musings

Tall Wedding Shopping Woes

I was going through some wedding photos the other day and it brought back the oh so (not) joyous memories of trying to find a tall wedding dress, shoes and underoos that fit my abnormally long figure. The Dress Mr. L3 and I had known each other for almost 2 years when he finally popped the question, and then we decided on a quick 3 month engagement.  I literally went dress shopping the Saturday after getting engaged and KNEW I had to buy a dress THAT day if it was going to be ready for my big day.  No pressure, right? […]

Do you Ebates?

I know I’ve done a bit of grumbling recently about the fact that us tall ladies must primarily purchase our tall clothing online BUT there are some upsides to shopping online.  Enter Ebates!  My online shopping guru friend introduced me to Ebates about a year ago and at first I was a little skeptical because it seemed too good to be true. But it’s simple as pie and I love it! Here’s how it works. Over 1200 online retailers ranging from Crate & Barrel to Groupon to Nordstrom etc. offer you a percentage of cash back if you click on […]

Tall Maternity Musings Part 2

Disclaimer – Before these 2 maternity posts start a flurry of speculation and rumors, let me just reiterate that NO I’m not pregnant.  Moving on… Yesterday, I posted about a couple of tall maternity lines.  All of this preggy talk got me thinking…what was it like when my two favorite tall ladies (my mom and my big sister – both 5’11) were pregs?  I was curious about the availability and evolution of tall maternity clothes over the years, so last week, I did a little informal interview with them and here are their answers.   My beautiful “big” sis (who is 3 […]

Stuff I’ve Learned From Twitter

I’ve put off joining Twitter for a long time because…well…I have a tendency to become obsessed with things, and I was worried I would just sit in front of my computer all day refreshing my twitter feed and  forsake all face-to-face contact with the outside world.  OK…I’m being a little over-dramatic.  I’m way too social to let that happen, but just ask my husband about the 4684208624 hours I spent researching houses to buy, finding the perfect cabin to rent in the Smoky Mountains and looking into a tropical vacation for us. You get the picture about just how obsessed […]

Musings on Tall Shopping

Disclaimer: I know this rant is nothing new under the sun, but I just need to vent for a second. As I walked into the Huntington Beach Waterfront Hilton ballroom for the Long Tall Sally pop-up, I experienced a couple of emotions that I didn’t expect…a bit of anxiety and a smidge of sadness.  Weird huh?  I thought I would skip into the ballroom as light as a feather and flit around the room merrily plucking tall dresses and skirts and shirts and pants and coats off the racks.  Don’t get me wrong….the pop-up was wonderful with its racks and […]

Tall Dresses and Shy Legs

CONFESSION… I occasionally often wear jeans in 90+ degree weather.  If I’m not wearing jeans, I’m wearing maxi skirts or dresses or am very self consciously wearing longish capris. Why the shy legs? Thanks to 5 years of wearing heels while working as a bank teller in college, I have amassed a lovely collection of spider veins on my lower extremeties.  Last month, I started laser vein removal treatments and am SO beside-myself-excited to finally be able to wear short dresses and skirts again with confidence.  I figure it’s high time to get this leg show on the road now […]

You guys have kids?

My husband and I were in Walgreens the other day and the checker was commenting on some of the stuff we were buying.  Then he said “You guys have kids?”  I thought maybe he was going to tell us the water bottles we were buying were some kind of safety/choking hazard for kids or something.  Nope.  He just was in awe of how tall we were and was wondering if we had any freakishly tall offspring.  Not yet.

Hi Tall

Toward the beginning of the service Sunday night at church, we were doing our “turn around and say hi to all the people around you” thing, and the wee man behind me said “Hi Tall.” He looked a little ethnic-ish so I thought maybe he just forgot the “I’m” in his sentence and was trying to say his name was Tol or Tawl so I said “Hi. I’m Bethany” to which he replied “Can I call you Tall?” with a big grin on his face, obviously very pleased with himself for making a tall joke. I rather firmly replied “No! […]

It’s a short world after all

I went to the chiro this morning to get x-rays for my achin back and, at one point, he seemed to be having difficulty finding the right adjustments for me on the x-ray machine. Then he gave up and said “Can you kinda bend your knees? I bet you’ve never heard this before but you’re pretty tall.” What a shocking revelation! My thighs started to shake a little as I struggled to maintain my semi-squat position for the several seconds it took him to work his magic in the x-ray booth (shaky quads….maybe a sign I need to work out […]

Up up and away!

When I fly, I always get a little skittish of going through security. I think it’s my irrational fear of getting in trouble. I have visions of TSA escorting me to a secluded room for interrogation because they consider my tweezers a weapon or something to that effect. So when I walked through the metal detector recently and saw the TSA chick on the other side eyeballing me, I thought “O crap. Here comes the cavity search.” Instead she exclaimed “How tall are you?! 6’3? You’re taller than me!” I’m not used to TSA people being chatty so I was a […]
