True confessions! I was SUPER nervous to try these jeans! Why? Because I’ve worn nothing but stretchy skinny jeans for the past 5 years and I’m kinda addicted to them! These tall wide leg jeans (which were kindly gifted to me by the brand Taylor Tall) are the POLAR OPPOSITE with the wide leg style and 100% organic cotton fabric. Turns out I had nothing to worry about! Even though they’re vastly different than the jeans I’ve been wearing for years, they fit and feel great and it’s exciting to try something new. When I slipped them on and wore them for a bit, I was marveling at how wild and free my calves felt without being constricted by tight skinny jeans. Don’t get me wrong…I still love my skinnies but these tall wide leg jeans have definitely inspired me to branch out a bit.
Let’s dive into the details a bit!
About the Brand Taylor Tall
Taylor Tall was founded in 2019 by 5’11 Taylor and her husband with the goal of creating timeless modern basics for tall women that can be customized for a perfect fit. Taylor had a hard time finding tall-friendly clothing that was sustainably and consciously crafted so she took matters into her own hands by starting Taylor Tall. Bravo to Taylor for seeing a need in the tall clothing world and working to become the solution!
Many of Taylor Tall’s fabrics (this like irresistible stripes/dot fabric) are handwoven by artisans in India and the clothing is then made in Fair Trade cooperatives. Taylor Tall has created some beautiful relationships with the Indian artisans that it partners with! As a serial outfit repeater, I love that the focus is on high quality modern basics that can be worn for years and also love that the clothing is made with ethically sourced natural fibers like cotton and linen. Taylor Tall has also taken a lot of care with the fit of their items making sure that proportions are adjusted to account for the fit pain points that women often experience when trying to wear non-tall clothing. Taylor Tall just added a really cool virtual fit session option where you can schedule a 15 minute video consult if you’re unsure what size or style might look good on you. I was able to do this with Taylor and carefully going over my measurements helped a lot.
Some fun details about these fabulous tall wide leg jeans:
Sizing – The jeans come in sizes US4-US18 and inseams range from 31″ to 40″. I am 6’2/1.88m, 185 lbs and typically wear a size 31, US10 or Large in pants/jeans. I chose a size US10 in the 34″ inseam after consulting with Taylor and the jeans fits great! There’s a tiny bit of extra room in the hips but the cool thing is, the back panel/seam is purposely made for easy alterations AND Taylor Tall offers a $15 alterations credit if you need it. If you’re in between sizes, Taylor recommends sizing down since the cotton will stretch and form to your body over time.
Customizable length – This is a tall girls dream! These jeans are made-to-order! You choose your perfect inseam between 31-40 and the jeans are made with that length! There is also a very generous hem in case you ever want to make your jeans longer.
The denim – This denim is SO soft and took zero breaking in. Huzzah! By contrast, 100% cotton jeans I’ve had in the past have been stiff and uncomfortable.
Ethical/Sustainable – The jeans are made from 100% organic cotton and constructed at a fair trade cooperative in India
Easy alterations – They’re designed to be easily tailored in the waist/hips and inseam which will definitely add years of wear. Such a thoughtful detail!
Glorious high rise – I realized a lot of my non-skinny jeans from years past were either low or mid-rise and I’m totally traumatized by them! The flattering high rise style on these is exactly what my body type needs
Versatility – I’ve been playing dress up a lot with these jeans and they are quite versatile! I think they look best with a cropped style top (thanks to the high rise style) or with a tucked in top. And of course adding blazers or jackets over these tops looks fabulous too!
Here are couple of ways I styled them:
Burnt orange puff sleeve sweater, animal print belt and Otto+Ivy Tilly boots
Striped tee, tan belt and Pink Maharani Cashmere Scarf
So…what do you think? Are you ready to try wide leg jeans?
