Made in Germany dress from Paul & Piske in Hamburg

Made in Germany – Tall Clothing from Grossartig by Paul & Piske

Imagine strolling around a hip neighborhood in Hamburg exploring the little streets lined with funky boutiques, cafes and coffee shops and stumbling upon a window front that says “Atelier”. You peer through the window and see a couple of sewing machines and stacks of different fabrics and you wonder what kind of clothing is made there. Now imagine how exciting it would be to discover that the clothing sewn in this Atelier is for the shop Paul & Piske a few doors down which is owned by a tall mother/daughter team and one section of the shop is dedicated to tall-sized clothing. This is the stuff dreams are made of for us tall ladies, right? I am very excited to bring you another installment of my Made In… Series – this time made in Germany tall clothing from Grossartig by Paul & Piske.

Made in Germany - Tall clothing from Grossartig Paul & Piske boutique in Hamburg

I discovered the tall brand Grossartig on the interwebs awhile back and was excited to visit the store while on a weekend trip to Hamburg. When I walked into the boutique, I was greeted by the striking 6’5 Ana. She and her mother were SO helpful as I tried on a bajillion different dresses. I appreciated their honest input when they steered me away from colors or patterns that didn’t look good with my skin tone and styles that they didn’t feel were flattering on me. Ultimately, they helped me pick a dress I adore. When all was said and done, I bought a dress from the regular-sized house brand Paul & Piske instead of the tall brand Grossartig. Ana suggested I buy a bigger size that fit my thighs and bum well but was too baggy in the bodice and then have one of the seamstresses take in the top of the dress for me that same day to accommodate my often problematic “smaller on top, larger on the bottom figure”. Due to the differences in size between my waist and hips, I have a very hard time wearing fitted dresses and usually gravitate to a fit-and-flare style. It was a real treat to add this more fitted style to my repertoire, and it feels like a semi-custom made dress since top half of the dress was altered to my measurements! The fabric is high quality, a bit textured and slightly stretchy making the dress both comfy and flattering. The construction is superb and I know I’ll wear this dress for a very long time.

This is the area that the seamstress took in and now it fits perfectly!

Knowing exactly where and how my clothes were made is something that has become very important to me, and I hope that I can continue to discover brands which sew their own clothes!

**This is not a sponsored post. I bought this dress with my own money.**

Oh wow! Thanks for this review! This is so great to know! I have been in Hamburg for about 2 months and leaving tomorrow , so sadly can’t visit the store, but will definitely make a point of checking it out next time. The dress looks great on you!

Oh no! Sorry you’re leaving town and won’t make it to this boutique. But yes…hopefully you can visit when you’re back.

*Adds Hamburg to list of European towns that must be visited*
You are so lucky to have found so many tall retailers on your travels around Europe. I’ve always struggle to find independent retailers in the UK. Though we are lucky in the number of high street chains that stock tall items online, I never feel the fit is spot-on. (Unlike that dress which looks like it fits like a dream!)

Hamburg is a beautiful place to visit and you can also go to the tall boutique I Love Tall while you’re there too! I am indeed lucky to have found so many tall shops in Europe. There aren’t any in CA that I know of so it’ll be back to online shopping after I move. 🙁
