Visiting Bernkastel Kues

Tall Travel Style – Mosel River

Ahhhh….summer road trips! One of my favorite things. The husband and I jetted off to the beautiful Mosel wine region of Germany and had an amazing time driving along the river between the tiny, picturesque villages, taking in the dramatic vineyard views and checking out the wine scene. I wasn’t super motivated to pack for this trip so I just threw some stuff in a suitcase and hoped I would be able to look semi-decent each day. And unfortunately I forgot my favorite everyday rose gold necklace and earrings so I felt quite naked in the accessories department! Here are the 3 outfits I managed to cobble together.

Outfit #1 – Trusty Long Tall Sally Button-Up Maxi Dress

This LTS maxi is seriously my summer uniform. I wear it again and again and again. It’s so comfortable but looks interesting with the mixed patterns and I can undo some buttons to get some sun on my legs.

Exploring Berkastell-Keus. Ignore the ugly parking lot and focus on the cool buildings and pretty vineyards instead!

We started the day with an appointment for some wine tasting at the family-run winery Weingut Haart in Piesport. We had such a pleasant time sitting with the winemaker in his tasting room with a big arched picture window looking out on the river and a lovely garden while he explained all of his Rieslings to us (and of course let us taste several). I highly recommend a visit if you’re ever in the Piesport area in the Mosel.

Later in the day, we explored several villages and some nice roads running along the river and into the hills.

Outfit #2 – MARGE Clothing ANNI Top, J.Crew Black Skinny Jeans and new Pretty Ballerina Flats

I’ve only had my blue silk blouse from MARGE Clothing for a few months but I’ve already worn it a bunch. Are you sensing a theme here? I really do wear many items in my closet over and over and over and it makes me really happy because it means I made a good choice when I bought these items. You may be wondering why the heck I’m wearing black jeans in July. Summer has been SO mild in Germany that I’m able to wear lots of “out-of-season” items. Yay! I just bought the Pretty Ballerinas shoes last week and am thrilled that they fit with my Thoughtful Shopping Series. You can get a closer look here on Instagram (plus a full review will be coming soon). I wore this outfit to dinner in Trier and of course stopped for a photo op in front of the huge cathedral. When I want a non-fussy nice-casual dinner outfit, this is my go-to look (except usually with more accessories…can’t believe I forgot them).

Outfit #3 – Amalli Talli striped cotton shirt, White Mavi jeans, Talltique layering tank, New Balance Sneakers, Leopard print skinny belt, Michael Kors grey cross-body bag

On Saturday, we were off again exploring this time to the villages of Cochem, Trarbach, Ürzig and the surrounding areas. It was a lot cooler than the previous day so I could get away with wearing my white jeans. I wore my Amalli Talli striped cotton button-up totally open for the first time and liked the layered look. Since I knew we’d be tromping around vineyards and that it might rain a bunch, I opted for my New Balance sneakers instead of cute flats or sandals. It proved to be a good choice!

Your turn…

Have you ever been to this area? Do you prefer small towns or big cities (or a little of both)? Do you find that you wear only a few items of clothing again and again or do you like to diversity more?

Great pics again, looks like a lovely trip! I’m thirsty now.. 😉 Never been here before, though the first sentence I ever learned with German lessons in school was; ” Haben sie ein stadplatz von Trier, bitte?’ so I guess I should go, if anything, I know how to ask for a map. 🙂 xx

Thanks so much Karen! I think that the universe is telling you to go if that was the first German sentence you learned. 🙂 If we ever go again, we will stay in one of the small villages rather than Trier but Trier does have shopping, more restaurants etc. so it was a good launching point.

I think I visited Trier once, many, many years ago, but I have never explored the Mosel region. It’s beautiful! Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photos! Your outfits worked out very well. I think if you take items that you love and wear often, outfits come together easily and work…

It really is a beautiful area and the landscape definitely has some cool drama to it. I agree with you that throwing a bunch of your favorite pieces into a suitcase is the way to go when you don’t feel like thinking too hard about packing. It seemed to work OK on this trip!

I love seeing your photos and outfits, as always, but I really like your new shoes:)!

It’s going to be hard to choose which of the places you’ve featured that we want to see!
