It was unseasonably perfect today with a high of 60F/15C and lots of sunshine. This weather has me all giddy for spring and also makes me excited to wear my lighter jackets again like my J.Crew Downtown Field Jacket.
If you’re curious about size, I bought both a small and medium and ended up keeping the small. The jacket has a boxy fit, and I felt like I was swimming a bit too much in the medium. Even though I have a small, don’t think that I don’t cram one (and sometimes two) layers under this jacket because…mmmhmmm…I definitely do. The fabric weight is perfect for temps in the 40s-50 (especially with layers underneath) and low 60s over a light tank or tee. The fabric itself is a bit stiff and “canvasy” (technical description from J.Crew website is “water-resistant waxed cotton”), but it’s definitely not uncomfortable AND it’s machine washable. Huzzah! I’m wearing the mossy brown color and the jacket also comes in black, navy and burgundy. Somebody hold me back from buying the navy color!
Since today’s weather provided me with a rare chance to wear the downtown field jacket in February, I started reminiscing about all of the ways and places I’ve worn it the past year.
Last spring, I fulfilled my long time dream of tulip gawking at the Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands, and the jacket was just the ticket for the brisk spring day. Mad for tulips? Click here to see more photos of my visit to the gardens.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may remember seeing this outfit. I love the field jacket paired with this flirty floral black and white tank. And, lest you think I never wear the outfits I show on Instagram out the door, I’m also including a photo of me out and about in this look.
This jacket is not only good for spring. It’s also perfect in fall! I wore it over the outfit shown here while toodling around Zurich.
