As a lover of country music, I was thrilled to discover 6’1 Brittany Brodie, an up and coming singer-songwriter in the country music scene. As I listened to an iTunes preview of her latest single, Together Never Alone, I was so impressed by her beautiful voice and thoughtful lyrics that I hit pause on the song preview and immediately bought the full versions of all of her singles. I encourage you to give a listen and do the same!
On the fashion front, Brittany has landed the support of Long Tall Sally and can be seen sporting various LTS styles (as well as other fabulous looks) on her Instagram account.
I recently had the chance to interview Brittany, and we dished about everything from height confidence to tall fashion to the inspiration behind her current single. Also, Brittany is revealing the name of her next single first to Tall Fashion Adventures’ readers and sharing her brand new photos with us. So exciting! Read on to learn more about this talented tallista.
TFA: First, let’s dish about height. It seems you’re comfortable and confident with being 6’1 which I applaud. Have you always loved being tall or was it more of a journey to get to the point where you embraced your height?
BB: Thank you for saying that. I have always accepted and embraced my height. I have always stood tall and proud. I remember my parents telling me to sit up straight with my shoulders back. Nothing worse than poor posture. One of the things I was bullied about in school was my height and I never let it get to me. I did go through a period where I didn’t wear many heels as I didn’t want to bring more attention to myself but then I always felt I was missing out on amazing shoes. This, however, is never the case anymore. I love a gorgeous pair of pumps and I do it for me. I own it.
It’s so exciting that you’re sponsored by Long Tall Sally. Tell me a little bit about your partnership with them. Have you been a fan of LTS for a long time?
BB: I have been shopping at LTS since I was quite young (since public school). Growing up I remember my mama saying, “Soon we will have to take you to LTS. It’s the only place for us to shop”. I was growing like a weed, and I’m so thankful for LTS. I’m absolutely thrilled and honored to have their support. I’m extremely grateful.
TFA: I’d love to hear a little bit about growing up in Mount Forest in Ontario Canada. Is it a small town? What is the culture like there?
BB: Mount Forest is a beautiful farming community. It’s a much slower pace of life. That’s my hometown and where my parents and immediate family are. It’s nice to have a place to call “home” and a humbling place at that. Being in the business I’m in and me being me, I love travel and adventure and you have to be where the music is and where your career takes you.
TFA: When did you first realize that you had a beautiful voice and wanted to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter? And when did you first start writing songs?
BB: I knew from 3 years of age that I was going to do this. I was watching the Grand Ole Opry with my parents and said “I’m going to do that one day.”
My daddy told me a neighbor told him I was going to be a singer because when I was outside playing I was screaming so loud and holding it so long. I love hearing that! I started singing, dancing and acting around home when I was very small and then was in choir as soon as I hit public school and started performing there as well and then in front of major audiences and contests etc. from age 8. I knew all along this was my gift and my life. I have always written stories and later songs. I write a journal every day. I have since a small child. I love to write and have a vision.
TFA: Speaking of stories, one of the main things I love about country music is that the songs often do tell stories. When I listened to your new single Together Never Alone, I was moved by the picture of sacrifice, hard work and love that the song painted. What is the background of the lyrics?
BB: My daddy is a truck driver and has been all his life. He’s the hardest working man I know. My mama is in sales and raised three kids and was at home alone a lot while Dad was trucking and she worked full time too. I remember always hearing them on the phone talking. Daddy would get home and we would dance in the kitchen to Vern Gosdin (a lot) or whatever cassette was there, and he would tell me about songs he sang in the truck while away. I have the most beautiful, supportive, hard working parents. I’m so lucky to have them. The life isn’t for everyone but it is our life and it’s a great one. This also gave me the gift of independence and chasing my dreams. There are so many families who can relate to the song and the story. A lot of men and women are away from their families for lengths of time so they can provide for them.
TFA: That’s a beautiful story about your family and I agree that a lot of families will relate to that. Those who are familiar with my life story certainly know that I can relate to it! While we’re on the topic of role models, who are your role models in country music (or any genre of music)?
BB: I have had and do have so many, and they all stick with you. Right now I will say, Little Big Town, George Strait, Lee Ann Womack, The Spice Girls (always), Bryan Adams, Elton John. I have SO many it would be impossible to list.
TFA: I love your list! I’ve seen Little Big Town, George (twice) and Lee Ann Womack in concert and have certainly blasted songs by the other three artists rather loudly in my car at various times in my life! Any developments on the horizon that you can share with us such as upcoming performances or the release of new singles etc.?
BB: I will be performing next weekend (Saturday, September 12th) 12:30-1:30 time slot; during the CCMA (Canadian Country Music Association) week in Halifax, NS. I have a showcase with “Diamonds In The Rough”. There are so many events happening that week. I also am working on some more shows, I will let you know when they become available.
I also will be releasing a NEW Single in October, which I co-wrote. You are the very first to hear the title. It’s called “Phoenix”.
So stay tuned for that. I wish for everyone to find me online and follow me and send me messages, I would absolutely love to hear from you. And check out my music out. It’s available on iTunes, GooglePlay and all the online music retailers.
