Wowee! Where is 2015 going? I am now six months into my Tall Specialty Shop Challenge and it’s been quite a ride so far. Just to refresh your memory, this challenge involves only buying from companies that exclusively sell tall women’s clothing for all of 2015 (well for most of 2015 since I started the challenge on February 20). My purpose is to see if all of my fashion needs can be met by tall speciality retailers, to discover new tall shops and also to introduce these fabulous “tallpreneurs” to my readers. I hope that my reviews over the past 6 months have inspired you to give some new tall shops a try. After all, we need these all of these companies to stay in business so that we can continue to have tons of options..
Here are some stats on the Tall Speciality Shop Challenge so far:
Items Bought: 12
Bomber jacket -1
Jeans – 2
Dresses – 2
Tops – 7
Stores I’ve bought from: Talltique, Amalli Talli, Tallwater Jeans, Height Goddess, Long Elegant Legs, Long Tall Sally, Pretty Tall (in The Netherlands)
What’s missing? You may be wondering if there is anything I haven’t been able to find during this challenge and I will say that finding 100% cotton and linen styles to feed my recent obsession with these fabrics has proven more difficult than I would have thought. There is A LOT of polyester out there in the tall speciality shop world and that just doesn’t fly for me in the heat of summer. Another item I’ve had difficulty finding is cute sporty shorts or a cute sporty skort to wear when I’m doing outdoor activities in the heat. So far, no dice on that but I’m not ready to give up the hunt just yet.
And now for a walk down memory lane with all of my Tall Speciality Shop Challenge purchases to date.
Talltique Faux Leather Bomber Jacket (with the longest sleeves I’ve ever seen). I’m getting a lot of mileage out of this jacket as I’ve worn it in France, The Netherlands and Germany.
Height Goddess Charlie V-Neck Blouse – I haven’t had a chance to wear this top too much because the weather quickly became hot shortly after I bought it. Now that the weather is cooling down again, I think I will get a lot of wear out of it for fall.
From Pretty Tall in The Netherlands: Blue/White Palm Print Tunic, Mavi White Skinny Jeans and Pink Lace Detail Tee
Who knew I’d have to travel all the way to The Netherlands to finally find white jeans that worked for me! These jeans go with tons of stuff in my closet and have a perfect 36″ inseam. The lightweight blue/white palm print tunic is also on heavy rotation and the lace-back tee is what I grab from my closet on the weekends when I need to jet out for a quick round of errands.
Tallwater Jeans: 38″ Kimora Slim Bootcut – These jeans have rocked my world. The fit, quality and comfort is superb and they’re my go-to when I’m not in a skinny jeans mood. I look forward to buying another pair from Tallwater (maybe some flares?!)
Long Tall Sally Button-Up Dresses: I have already worn my mixed print button-up maxi dress so many times I’m trying to remember what the heck I wore before I bought it. The green floral shirt dress served me very well on my Italy getaway and is what I’ve been gravitating to lately when I want to look put-together but don’t want to think about my outfit too much. I do find that I have to keep an eye on the buttons. I noticed the bottom two had come undone as I was getting off the bus the other day. Naughty buttons!
Amalli Talli Button-Up Tunic Blouse: This blue/white striped blouse is my latest purchase and I’m loving the fact that it’s a nice 100 % cotton fabric. I styled it 3 ways on the blog and have already found more ways to wear it. Huzzah!
Long Elegant Legs – 3 Tops
I ordered a chambray top, a plaid top and a ruana during LEL’s recent sale and they’re currently on their merry way to me. Review coming soon!
I find that I’m being a lot more thoughtful and strategic with my purchases this year as I take my time to hunt for treasures in the inventory of the various tall shops. As a result of this thoughtful shopping (as opposed to my bad habit of impulse buying), I am wearing everything that I’ve bought quite a lot because I love all of it so much and it all fits wondrously well on my tall frame. There’s still 4.5 months to go in my shopping challenge and I can’t wait to see what tall treasures I can rustle up before the end of the year.
Have any of my reviews inspired you to try a tall shop? Have you shopped with any of the above tall clothing shops or other tall shops that are not listed? How has your experience been? Would love to hear any and all thoughts on this shopping challenge in general!
